Facing a positive alcohol or drug test result?
We’re here to help you return to work!
4. How much does an evaluation cost?
The RTD SAP service fee, which covers two assessments and necessary paperwork, begins at $499, although this may vary depending on the specific SAP provider selected. At MD DOT SAP, we have four providers available, each with different rates.
5. Will my insurance pay for the SAP evaluation?
Health insurance typically covers costs that are deemed to be medically necessary. However, a positive drug test does not automatically imply that a service is medically necessary. As a result, it is unlikely that your medical insurance will cover the SAP (Substance Abuse Professional) process. MD DOT SAP does not accept any form of medical insurance. If you discover that your insurance company may reimburse you for your expenses, our office is happy to provide you with a receipt that you can submit for potential reimbursement.
6. How long does the process take?
The duration required to complete the RTD process varies significantly depending on the specifics of each case. For straightforward situations, we can often find resolutions more swiftly, allowing for a smoother and faster experience. Conversely, more intricate cases tend to require additional time and careful consideration, leading to longer resolution periods. Once we conduct our initial assessment together, we’ll gain a clearer understanding of the unique factors involved in your situation, enabling us to provide a more accurate estimate of your individual timeline moving forward.
1.Why do I need a SAP evaluation?
DOT SAP evaluation determines whether an individual has any underlying substance use concerns that need to be addressed through some form of treatment or education. It ensures that the individual completes the necessary steps to address these concerns and complies with DOT regulations before returning to safety-sensitive duties.
2. How long is a SAP evaluation?
The duration of a DOT SAP evaluation varies depending on individual circumstances. However, starting the process as soon as possible is essential to minimize delays in returning to work.
3. What is the Return to Duty Process?
As your designated SAP, I perform an initial evaluation and provide you with recommendations for education or treatment. Once you complete the recommended education or treatment program, I meet with you again to determine compliance and establish a follow-up testing plan.
FAQ's
7. How Do I Designate an SAP in Clearinghouse?
Click here for instructions. Be sure to select the correct SAP.
8. If I don’t like the recommendation of my current SAP can I switch?
When you select a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP), the Department of Transportation (DOT) considers their recommendation to be conclusive and unchangeable. The policy is clear: seeking a second opinion is not permitted. Once you initiate an evaluation process with a specific SAP, you cannot engage with another SAP. Attempting to do so may result in fines imposed by the DOT. Additionally, if your employer were to accept a recommendation from a different SAP, they could also face DOT penalties.
